One of the first things you learn when you start your internet business is that writing is a great marketing tool. But have you ever had the feeling that a lot of the newsletter and ezine authors are writing because they are told to, rather than having something useful to say. It is very common that people are writing to write and not to add quality or help for their possible client base.
How can you change this?
Dale Carnegie has a fantastic saying, “You can make more friends in two months by becoming really interested in other people, than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you.”
So, what should you do as a brand new online business owner who is trying to ‘make friends’?
Write with a goal. Think of what your ‘clients’ may be looking for and say it in a simple, easy to read format. You don’t have to be wordy to get an important point across.
Be yourself. Write in your own words as it will make you a person who cares what the reader needs. Your aim is to be a real person who is paying attention to the needs of the reader.
Make it practical to your business. If you are giving an explaination of a product or service, include your personal story into it. Keep in mind, you want to convey that you are a real person.
Be optimistic. There is a lot of pessimism in our world, and people don’t need fear or warnings of doom. Keep your writing upbeat and talk about the positives of what you are explaining.
People like to be entertained. If you can get your point across with a story, or with emotion involved, you will have a greater impression on your audience.
Generate an internal response with the reader. Writing is a two way dialogue. What you write should create a response from the reader. As a writer, I feel, we overlook that there are people who are going to be reading our words, we are in a conversation with them. Use words that create a picture, your reader will welcome it.
It is possible for everyone to communicate as a writer, and communicate the message they want to get across. Think of those times in your life when you were telling a story, and your audience was listening to every word, you created the scene in there minds. As an Internet marketer you want to do the same thing.
Always have your writing in your words, do not try to be someone that you are not. If you are new to Online Business, discuss how you are overcoming obstacles, not how to be an effective marketer. As you get experience you can write about specifics of marketing and what has worked for you.
More than anything else, be friendly and yourself, and great things will come from your writing.
